Thyroidectomy and Ablation |

Thyroid surgery, called thyroidectomy, removes part or all of the thyroid gland.
Thyroid surgery is commonly followed by treatment with radioactive iodine to destroy
"leftover" normal thyroid cells, as well as thyroid cancer cells. This procedure is
called ablation.
